Overview
The CEDE aligns with several strategic initiatives at Penn State. The center represents an unprecedented partnership between the Penn State College of Engineering (CoE), Applied Research Lab (ARL), and Materials Research Institute (MRI).
Penn State has made several key commitments to CEDE:
- Financial investment to support Directed Energy (DE) fabrication and testing, 4-D material fabrication and characterization (4-D printing lab), and a high-performance computing deep learning cluster.'
- Strategic faculty hire in directed energy area; opportunities for graduate student fellowships.
- Equipped a brand-new lab space in College of Engineering's Engineering Collaborative Research and Education (ECoRE) building to support DE research; shared facility with the Computational Electromagnetics and Antennas Research Lab (CEARL) group. Additional resources provided by ARL and MRI partners.
The faculty/researchers’ expertise cover a wide range of technical needs in DE topical areas including HPM, HEL, materials, 3-D printing, mechanics. The center has access to a wide range of state-of-the-art facilities at Penn State (e.g., anechoic chambers, 3-D printing, and nano-fabrication labs).
